Over the years, a great many speakers and a great many speeches have inspired my own presentation skills. But something far more important than that is also true: many of these speeches, and the rhetorical grandeur of the people who gave them, actually changed the world as we experience it today. Let us begin with an extract from his very first radio broadcast.
What I find most interesting when I listen to Churchill is this. He had a speech impediment, and rather than treating it as a problem to be hidden, he turned it into a possibility, into a way of speaking that was entirely his own. It became part of what made him unmistakable. But what impresses me even more is that, for the most part, he wrote these rhetorical masterpieces himself. There is no video of this particular speech, so what you have is an audio recording to sit back and listen to.
